nVidia’s 8800 Ultra card is the fastest video card on the market, bar none. According to HardOCP, nVidia aims to raise the bar again in the spring with their next-gen card, the 9800 GX2. With a reputed speed boost of 30% and support for Quad-SLI, the 9800gx2 may be the card that puts the nail in ATI’s high-end coffin.Update: They say the expected price: around $449 US and the release date: February 14, 2008.

we want , i dont care if its shopped , i want it… and i have an 8800gt
How would anyone fit four of these in a PC?! :S
Not only do you have to worry about it fitting but can you image the power supply you would need to power 4 of these? Also the amount of heat these are going to release into your system. Better have good ventilation for these. However, I highly doubt this will put a nail in the coffin of ATI, ATI will come out with something just as good if not better within a few months of the release of this. That is how it always works, look at the history of Nvidia and ATI, same with Intel and AMD. Also we should never hope that one of these major companies goes out of business, that would destroy the competition. Do you think Nvidia would be in a rush to release new products if ATI wasn’t releasing new products also?
Ok to your morons who always spout SHOPPED, you’re igrorant as piss. do one google search for this and you will find out that, OH BOY it’s an officially announced product from Nvidia. And any first look Reference design at something weather it be an automobile or a videocard, they look similar but not exactly like a finished product.
So next time instead of spouting out SHOPPED just say you’ve got shit for brains. it’ll be more entertaining for me to look at
Anyway you can’t have 4 of these actual cards in a pc. just 2. this design of card actually utilizes 2 GPU’s on the card, but the card is made up of 2 separate silicon boards, each with their own GPU and Memory. this card is very similar to the 7950 x2 if you wanna check that out

I have shit for brains.
I hope that made your New Year Marlaman.
Cheers.
Awesome! To the poster who stated that ATI will have something better within a few months and compared the video card market to the cpu marklet, think again. In all of ATI’s history, they have had one solid chipset whereas Nvidia has had one bad one, and that was around 2001 with the 5900/9700 (the X800 series was based off the same chip as the 9700/9800 series). I highly doubt ATI will be able to compete with Nvidia’s offerings as they are falling well behind in the high end graphics market. 2007 has, and I quote from Maximum PC, been “A one-horsed race in the video card world”, with Nvidia leading by leaps and bounds. And besides, you can call me bias, but I don’t want the nightmare of using catalyst drivers again..
It seems that Nvidia will become the Windows of video cards. Although they often come out with high end cards quickly, ATI does come out with similar if not better ones later. One of the only reasons that Nvidia is able to do this more than ATI is what I like to call the ‘windows’ effect. Basically, many game companies have ties to Nvidia, mostly financial, in which, they slap on Nvidia’s slogan, and use mostly Nvidia cards. This isn’t only frustrating, but will obviously cause problems in the future. If most PC’s or games start to rely heavily on Nvidia, common problems will arise. Nvidia would end up killing ATI, but that would end up killing Nvidia as well. Without ATI, Nvidia would have no competition, like Windows did on most PC’s, only because of the fact that most games nowadays are based on Nvidia card specs and limitations/technology. While many people would say that this would be a good thing because Nvidia would be able to make requirements for games a bit more uniform. While that may be true, it would make things uniform, there is the fact that not everyone would still use Nvidia. People with integrated graphics cards/ATI are screwed over by this ‘windows’ effect, much like Mac and Linux users were by Windows. Basically, your whole ‘Nvidia is always better argument’ holds no water whatsoever. Oh, and if you’d have done the research, you’d know that more often than not, ATI *has* released a card that performs as well as, or better than the current Nvidia card. While it may be a bit later in coming, its still better or as good, nonethel
You guys who are worrying about PSU problems are so silly! It should only take 2 small nuclear reactors to power it. Stop being chincy with your PSU’s, jeez.
I can’t wait for this card to come out, im gona get it a-sap! My brother is getting it as well whenever its comin out, hopefully late Feb or early to mid march, I’m guessing.
Wonder wat the power supply needed is gona be.
And I doubt there will be any problems powering it.
Hey,
I want some info about the Price of 9800 GX Please….
Nine, (dramatic pose) million dollars!
Mwahahahahahh!!
Nine, (dramatic pose) million dollars!
Mwahahahahahh!!
What else of course?
Money comes and goes if you want the card buy it. With the economy being the way it is I doubt if they’re going to jack up the price really high. If you do get it you’ll be the king of the jungle for a short while, till the next beast comes out. Life is short enjoy.
its going to be a alsome card
Crod makes an excellent point. Two internets for you!
Damn it, 12:47 EST, announce already, so I can get a 8800GTS cheaper.
Still going to stick with Nvidia for now because of better Linux support. ATI is coming around in that area though and may pass Nvidia within a year.
You guys are sooo incredibly foolish. By quad sli it means TWO of them!!!
GX2=2 GPU’s Therefore 2 GX2’s would eqaul 4 GPU’s. That is what they eman by Quad SLi. Lol in terms of power any PSU by OCZ, Coolermaster, Gigabyte, Enermax over 950w would be able to power two of them card which puts a stop to this nonsense of nucleur reactors.!!!
Hi
Just to bring a different perspective to the conversation. Lets talk about looks of a game when playing, i was a big fan of the Nvidia cards for quite sometime, yes there quick no arguments there, but i always found them a little flat in the game looks department and this is why i now find that ATI cards kick ass. They have better texture and close up detail so for me the ATI cards are better forgetting all that other crap that we tend to talk about. So the nice thing about having two graphics card companies is that it gives us choice, if one where to go out of buisness HOW BORING WOULD THAT BE!!!

You are the fagot who needs to die after posting a comment like that, if you do not like feedback I would recommend you shut your mouth next time and not visit links such as these. These links are informational to some people. So I sincerely hope you go down in the slowest way possible.
Ahahahahha ATI will always make cards as good as Nvidia but the difference is that ATI sells so much cheaper that the nvidia.

Go suck on a dead dogs butt hole, you sound like a very ignorant person.

Ati sucks really bad. to much lagg even the 3870,,,, i know cause i owned it and i sold it, wait till the 9800 gtx comes out,,,, end of march.
Hi
Gabriel i have a 3870 ati card and have had no problems with it at all, maybe you got a faulty one dude. i run all games on high spec (including crysis) plus driver updates have made this card even quicker.
If you want to go and rob a bank so you can have the latest Nvidia card go right ahead, its not going to be that much quiker than the 3870 x2 card.
Wow reviews by 12 year olds. Is there any professionals out there who are more interested in actually giving reviews than spending valuable time in a playground fight?
Just bought 1 today , will give a review when its fitted and tested on 3D Mark , with PC specs and results
asus striker exteme MoBo
intel core duo E6700 @ 2.66ghz
nVidia Geforce 9800 gx2
Cooler Master 850w PSU
as standard ( nothing overclocked ) 3D mark score 12,300
seems like the processor maybe causing a bottle-neck , i have run this processor at 3.2 ghz , will overclock it and post results
processor @3.2ghz……….3D mark score 13,897
Thanks for the update. It looks like you did have a bit of a CPU bottleneck but those scores look pretty good.
