eBay Live Cashback (is not) Ended

August 4th, 6PM: Live cashback is back! 25% off eBay purchases appears with any of the usual keywords. What a happy day!

August 5th & 6th: Live Cashback is down/gone for the time being, but eBay reports that they will continue the program and it is only down for upgrades.

Its too early to tell now, but it looks like the wonderful eBay/Microsoft Live Cashback is done for. As of July 31st, 2008, Live.com is no longer offering eBay cashback in any amount.

eBay Live Cashback Ended

Its a sad day, but nobody can say that it wasn’t long in the making. This must have been costing them a fortune. I’ll update this if it comes back up, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Hey Taylor, what have your heard about the cashback offer? Did you speak to ebay regarding the issue? When is it going to be back up?

    Hi Justin,

Yes, I spoke with eBay and they say that the Cashback offer will be resuming at some point in the near future.

They’re apparently performing maintenance on the interface and that’s why its been so skittish over the past few days.

    Taylor,

Thanks for the update. I keep checking everyday. I’m waiting to buy some camping stuff once the offer comes back. It’s now Thursday at 12:30 EDT, but the deal is still down. Update your post if anything changes, I’ll post back if I find the deal is back up as well. Thanks!

Justin, Anna, you can check the current live cashback amount without having to futz with Live search here:

    http://www.taylorwilsdon.com/deals/current-ebay-live-cashback-amount

It will display the current cashback amount or let you know if its current disabled.

All I have to do at the end to get the cashback is go into my messages and click “get cashback” and then login to my cashback account and that is it? It isn’t showing up as pending in my account and it has been about 24 hours. Please let me know. Thank you!

    Hi Anna,

It can take a little while to show up. As long as you’ve clicked get cashback, its on its way. I’ve had it take several days before it posts to the account.

For the future, you may want to include an email address so I can respond personally.

Sorry. Last time I gave out my email address on something like this, I’ve received spam mail ever since.

It just showed up in my account. Thanks for your quick reply.

Do you know if you can use the same cashback account but use a different eBay account? I know it says 3 transactions per eBay account. So if I were to buy on a different eBay account would I still receive the cashback? Has anyone tried this?

  12. 12 Taylor Aug 13th, 2008 at 9:39 am

Yes, lots of people have tried this (though usually with multiple cashback and ebay accounts) but since nobody has reached cashout time yet, it hasn’t been proven to work.

I wouldn’t chance it. Save your 3 transactions for big purchases, that’s what I’m doing. Once you get your first round of cashback payouts, then it might be worth trying again because you don’t really have anything to lose.

I’m purchasing stuff that I’m making money on either way when I resell it. So I think I’ll try to do it with another eBay account and the same cashback account. Worse case scenario is that they would only give me the cashback for the 3 purchases I made on the first account. There is nowhere in their terms and conditions that says you can’t use multiple eBay accounts, right? And actually, eBay’s terms and conditions say something like you can only have 3 transactions per eBay account. Which makes it almost sound like they’re expecting people to use multiple eBay accounts. I would think they would limit it to “per person” or “per IP address” if they really didn’t want people using multiple accounts.

Thanks for your help. If you hear of anyone doing this successfully and getting their cashbacks for all purchases, please let me know by posting here on your blog. I’ll check back :) Have a nice day.
