Dell prepping an Andriod-based “Googlephone”?

While Dell seems to be denying the rumor (at the moment), British firm Marketingweek seems to think they will release some sort of Android platform PDA phone at the 3GSM conference. To quote;

“Marketing Week revealed last year that Dell was also planning a move into mobile phones after poaching Motorola executive Ron Garriques to run its new global consumer group (MW March 1, 2007).

Dell already produces personal digital assistants (PDAs) and strategy analytics director Neil Mawston says: “It makes sense for Dell to have a high-profile entry back into the market because its last effort with PDAs pretty much flopped.”

Garmin announces nuviphone, Apple readies lawyers.

Engadget sez’ “Garmin has just announced its new iPhone-like smartphone, the nüvifone. The device features full browsing, PIM, phone and of course, GPS functions. It’s an HSDPA, quad-band phone, also equipped with WiFi, Bluetooth and a somewhat familiar ultrathin design with full touchscreen support. The unit will use Garmin’s proprietary OS which is based on the UI its GPS units utilize, and sports a 3.5-inch LCD display.”

Across the board, people are drawing similarities between the nuviphone and the iPhone. The main difference? The nuviphone actually sports some recent technologies. The 3G connection and real GPS set it a notch above the iPhone in terms of hardware capabilities, and early reports on the interface are that it is not exactly original, but not lacking either.

Macbook Air Landing Today

Word is that the first round of shipments for the Macbook Air are touching down today (and some even yesterday). If you were one of the few who got an order off minutes after the announcement, expect your super-thin, super-breakable laptop to arrive sometime soon.

Apple might have fixed iPhone text display problem

Apple has posted their fix for the iPhone problem where viewing a text message did not display each thread in the right order. They seem to think it results from a mismatched internal to carrier time, but I’m skeptical because I have this problem and my time has always been synchronized.

However, its worth a shot for anyone who is encountering this. You can check their fix out here:

The Macbook Aircraft is not quite so light.

Flickr user nybras.rodrigo had the right idea for the people who want every last feature in their notebook when he designed the Macbook AirCraft.

Missing is the ability to pay your chiropractor, a HDMI port and any sort of audio, and oddly present is the floppy drive. Otherwise, this is (sadly) a summary of what the Mac community so vocally complained for.

Thin is in the details.
